Locate the grey ‘gear’ icon on the upper right-hand side of the the IE browser window. IT should also say "Tools" next to the icon. (If you cannot find it, right-click on any grey (open) area and select Menu bar.)
Select the bottom choice in the menu - "Internet Options".
Click on the Security tab.
Click on "Trusted Sites" so that the green check mark icon is selected.
Click the "Sites" button.
Add Gato-edit to the list of safe sites by typing in the address, "http://gato-edit.its.txstate.edu" and clicking the "Add" button.
Uncheck the box, "require server verification"
Click the "close" button.
Next, back in the "Internet Options" window, again under the "Security" tab, click the "Custom Level" button, and under the "Misc" heading, choose "Display Mixed Content".
When working on gato-edit with Internet Explorer, clicking on files to download them will not work. This is due to a bug in Internet Explorer that prevents it from downloading files from a secure connection (like the one gato-edit uses). Because the public version of your site doesn't use a secure connection, it won't affect your pages once they're published -- it only occurs on gato-edit.
If you have an existing banner image and update it with a file of the same name, the new image will never display. In order to get the banner to update, simply rename the banner image file before uploading it to Gato.
Pages that were last edited before the Minya release (March 11, 2008) may temporarily lose association to the images when a page is moved or renamed. To instantly re-associate the images, simply click "edit" on the paragraph and then "save". There is no need to re-upload images.
