Gato Training

The mandatory Gato training course is available for open enrollment in Canvas.

For returning editors seeking Calico training, this can be found as a separate module in the same course. Gato training does not need to be retaken in order to access this module.

Here's a brief description of each of training modules provided in the online course.

Introductory Gato Training

This online, self-paced training serves as an introduction to the Gato editing environment. Here's an overview of topics covered in this training:

  • Learn where to log into the Gato editing environment.
  • Introduced to online resources and support.
  • Locate and navigate the main work areas (e.g. - Pages and Assets)
  • Understand the basic structure of a website.
  • Adding, removing, and copying web pages.
  • Managing text, links and images on a page
  • Publishing and unpublishing content

Web Accessibility Training

This training is intended to prepare Gato editors to develop and maintain accessible web content. Learners will complete training with a basic understanding of the most common web accessibility issues as they relate to Gato and understand where to find resources.

Some topics participants will learn:

  • The importance of accessibility
  • The role of headers
  • Alt text
  • The value of readability
  • Video accessibility and captioning
  • Documents and accessibility

Calico Training

This is only required if one will need to edit a website using the Calico template. This includes all new websites and sandboxes.

This training is intended to prepare Gato editors to develop website content with the new features unique to the Calico templates. Editors will complete training with a basic understanding of the most recent updates to the new university templates as they relate to Gato and understand where to find resources.

Trainees will learn:

  • Why we redesigned
  • Prebuilt sections vs building sections
  • Template types and features
  • Navigation
  • Footer
  • Updates and conditions
  • Additional resources relating to web guidelines and resources

Gato 2 Training

Gato 2 material can be located after the Calico training modules. It introduces trainees to additional features of the system and is updated over time to include more material. This training is optional.

Please note that this training alone does not serve as a substitute for introductory Gato training.
